Flying Doctors Fulltime & Relief Positions
We require experienced energetic doctors for positions at a number of locations in Western Australia. Applicants will provide a range of flying doctor clinical services which comprise:
The work is varied and interesting and shared with other permanent RFDS medical staff at each of our bases. Requirements You must be fully registerable in Western Australia. A minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience including anaesthetics, paediatrics, obstetrics and emergency medicine are essential. Training in EMST/ATLS or APLS are also desirable. You must be computer literate. The positions would ideally suit experienced GP anaesthetists, or doctors with experience as registrars in anaesthetics or emergency medicine with some obstetric/paediatric experience. Terms and Conditions Our preference if for two-year contracts but some flexibility is possible and we can consider as short as six months. In practice, most doctors stay much longer. Fulltime relief positions provide opportunities to work in a number of regions during the year. Once employed, applicants are eligible to apply for fixed positions at individual bases as they arise. A formal orientation program is provided plus sponsorship to complete and update EMST (ATLS), APLS or similar courses. We provide an outstanding remuneration package which includes six weeks paid annual recreational leave, two weeks paid annual study leave, plus relocation costs, full accommodation and fully maintained motor vehicle. Additional study leave and other bonuses accrue with tenure of service. A substantial proportion of salary can be taken tax-free and used to pay private expenses. Applications are invited from female general practitioners, based in Western Australia, to participate in a visiting Rural Female GP Program conducted by the RFDS in conjunction with the Commonwealth Department of Health and Family Services. The program provides patients in designated rural areas with access to doctors of female gender on a regular visiting basis (up to once a month), for a full range of general practice services. The visits are in partnership with local GPs who host the visiting doctor and provide the local infrastructure. Most travel is by road but some aircraft travel may be required. Overnight stays of up to three nights may be necessary. The work is varied and offers the opportunity to enjoy some of the challenges and satisfaction of rural practice, contributing to health care in rural areas, without the need to relocate. Positions are becoming available on a regular basis as additional locations participate in the program. Doctors may be resident in Perth or regional centres across WA. Requirements Applicants must be fully registerable in Western Australia with a minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience. FRACGP and Diploma of Obstetrics are desirable. There is no requirement to be involved in other Flying Doctor emergency work or hospital inpatient care. An interest in women's health would be advantageous. Terms and Conditions Visiting Rural Female GPs are employed by the RFDS. There is an expectation of a two to three year commitment to ensure continuity of care to patients. Remuneration is on a sessional basis, including coverage of travel and administrative time. Travel and accommodation expenses are met and the visit schedule all coordinated by the RFDS in conjunction with the host practices.
